Food insecurity in Vermont has fluctuated since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic as our previous research (March/April and May/June) suggested. This research brief shares food access and food security experiences and perspectives during late summer and early fall (August/September 2020) among a new sample of 600 Vermonters.

EMPLOYMENT AND FOOD DURING CORONAVIRUS
Between March 15th and April 11th, more than 78,000 Vermonters filed unemployment claims, with a projected unemployment rate of 22.9%.3 This brief includes the experiences and perspectives of food and coronavirus specifically for Vermonters who have been furloughed, had a loss of hours or income, or lost their job.
The National Food Access and COVID research Team (NFACT) is a collaboration of researchers across 15 states exploring the impact of COVID-19 on food access, food security and food systems. NFACT research is examining these impacts across local, state, regional and national levels and is integrating data to explore outcomes and impacts across scales. NFACT is committed to rigorous, comparative, and timely food access research during the time of COVID. We do this through collaborative, open access platforms and research that prioritizes communication to key decision-makers while building our scientific understanding of food system behaviors and policies.
